December 2006
Saturday started out looking good, with the weather forecast being 10kn variable for the morning, changing in the afternoon to 20 to 25kn nor-west.
We all met at the pre -arranged North Rd address at 8am or about then for some! On the trip were Stuart, Pauline, Paul, Bill, Alan, Glen, Angus and myself. After a few pulled out of the trip on the day, due to self inflicted headaches we only needed two boats, the club boat and Angus's boat.
Everyone geared up, and with the boats in the water we were off (at this stage the cray dive had been canned and we were only going to harvest a few scallops). Only one problem, Angus had flooded the motor so we were running on the auxiliary, and we were getting left behind at a great rate of knots and then it ran out of fuel. After mixing up new fuel, we decided to try the main motor and away it went, and so did we.
By the time we caught the other boat, Paul & Glen were in the water and harvesting. Bill did not want to do the first dive in our boat, so Angus & myself decided to do a shallow dive, as we had a couple of small tanks that we wanted to blow too early. After 30 min we popped up and sorted our catch. It wasn't long before our site proved very lucrative and all on our boat secured their daily quota.
We then went over to the club boat to see how they were doing, and there were only three heads on the boat. Stuart was still diving, but Pauline had got a touch of sea-sickness after she was in the water, so decided to abort her dive. Somewhere along the way someone lost her weight belt but it never came back onto the boat. Also Glen had a new knife that never came back either (2nd knife in 2 dives!!). We then decided that the weather had not eased enough to have a look at Cape Soucis for a cray, so we headed back to the Okiwi ramp, and then off to the Rai tavern to sample a couple of pints before heading home, getting back to North Rd about 3:30pm.
Even though the weather was not the best, it was still an enjoyable day had by all that were there.
