The brief was simple, meet at Okiwi bay in your best pirate’s outfit and be prepared to enjoy yourselves. The result was the best turnout we have had at a club event. We had pirates of all descriptions take to the boats for the trip to Moukirikiri island.
Calm conditions and plenty of sunshine helped the pirate ships make good time so no one was forced to “walk the plank” An unexpected bonus was seeing the dolphins on the way to the island.
After setting up camp and exploring the island, it was time for the treasure hunt.
All the pirates gathered, yelled their “ooooares” and with plenty of sword waving set out to find the loot. Look out for anyone who stood in their way.
After 10 paces to the east (after figuring out which way was east) then 20 paces north, (the remaining directions are a secret) we were at the spot marked on the map with an X It was up to the pirates to search for the treasure. ‘ere it is was yelled at the top of a pirates voice and the treasure box was dragged out to the sand. Fierce action with the swords on the treasure box revealed a fine booty indeed and pirates rejoiced over their good fortune.
After the excitement of the treasure hunt, the pirates continued with exploring of the island whilst some of the cabin boys wrestled with the boats in the outgoing tide.
The trip home was just as eventful with one boat being relieved of its sails and resorting to a humble tow.
Team talk resumed at the castle of Angus and Belinda where lessons were given on the fine art of scallop shucking with varied success.
All in all a very enjoyable day out.
Special thanks must go to Bob and Wendy for the treasure, pirates flags and the treasure chest.
