Despite a distinctly dodgy weather forecast, seven keen divers met at Big Blue early and headed off. Although the trip was originally billed as being to Tory Channel we decided that Port Underwood was a better bet.
After a munch in Picton and a drive over the hill we were soon motoring along the coast to Port Underwood.
At our destination, Nigel and I geared up, did our final checks then dropped down to 12 odd metres. Vis wasn’t the best, at 3-4 metres but the abundance of crays made up for it, forget searching in the cracks and holes, there were plenty to hunt sitting out in the open.
Air never seems to last long enough for me so it was back up to the boats with a reasonable catch, and around the coast a bit for our second dive.
Again there were plenty of crays about, Ross came across a rock wall covered with 68 of them, an awesome sight.
Back on board the boats we each took our catch and headed for home, it was a great day had by all, blue skies and good diving, what more could you ask for!!
