We all met at Waikawa marina at 8.30 on a chilly and overcast morning. The Felix pulled up, we loaded up and set off.
Paul was the divemaster for the day and we planned our dives and buddied up.
After about an hour of changeable weather it got decidedly choppy and we decided that Port Gore would be uncomfortable and the Lermontov would not be a good dive.
We headed to East Bay where it was much calmer and we all geared up for a scallop dive.
During gearing up it was noticed that a few bathroom cupboards had been raided with Jan greasing up his moustache and head with vaseline and Alistair powdering up with talc to help him get into his dry-suit. As president I felt that it was my duty to give both “greasy and powder-puff” a hard time.
The dive was pleasant enough with plenty of scallops to choose from on a shelly and gravel sea-bed.
Everyone managed to get a good haul and plenty were reunited with Nemo.
With everyone aboard we headed out the Tory channel and over to Jordy rocks for a look.
We stopped by some cray pots and geared up again. There were plenty of bugs around, many in berry and even more were shorties. Allan and Angus managed to get some good takers.
Soon after we went for another swim where some good butterfish and cod were speared. We noticed the healthy stocks of Paua at about 12 meters, mmmm very tempting, but of course not with scuba.
After 3 good dives we were happy to de-robe and enjoy the hot shower. Back at shore we had the debriefing at the Jolly Roger and all headed off.
