Rabbit Island family day

Sunday 22nd June 2003. It was a bright sunny Sunday morning in Nelson, New Zealand. Where would you want to be but Rabbit island?

After a few circuits of the Rabbit Island raceway, the Perhams finally set up camp in a grassy area – making some attempt to indicate to others that the Nelson Bays Dive Club were here – by raising a dive flag. The honorary dive club family, the Crichton’s, closely followed them. The Llewellyn’s turned up, after having completed their Rabbit Island circuit and trip back to Richmond! Stu, Pauline and Honor arrived and we were it! A small but good value turn out!

After the obligatory mid winter BBQ (not too hard in temperatures of around 17 degrees), a fierce game of peg ball ensued. The competitive nature of the males soon became evident, Pete Crichton and Stu vying for top dog in the batting stakes.

Honor was the resident artist, painting the faces of the littlies in attendance – so we had various African animals in our midst too!!

What a great day, but would have been better with a few more dive families there. It was a great opportunity for the non-divers in our families to get to know other families a little better and in a truly superb location. Aren’t you glad you live in the Nelson Bays?
