Cape Koamaru (not Jordy Rock)

A cool crisp 6.00am start, meeting at Tahunanui for a change Ross, Brian, Angus, Jim and myself loaded up the two cars and boat and headed for Waikawa. The snow on the hills confirmed that winter is indeed here. Once at Picton, we suited up, a change of destination because of the weather conditions. We headed out of Queen Charlotte and headed for Cape Koamaru.

On arrival, a bitterly cold wind made the conditions a bit nasty. Brian, Jim and Angus jumped overboard for the first dive, while I tried my luck at fishing and lost some of Angus’s tackle, sorry about that Angus, think I forgot to mention that. As we were quite shallow the boys were down for a good 45 mins and Jim surfaced with a couple of good bucks, and Angus also managed a couple, but twisted his knee getting into the boat so his diving was finished for the day.

Next in were Ross and I, we went in at the same spot, as good reports had come back from the previous dive. Although Ross and I seemed to have drifted in to the nursery and land of berry!!! Oh well, I think Ross did manage 1 taker, and yip the faithful old champ dipped out (that doesn't happen often). Back on board the wind chill factor didn’t feel anywhere near as bad as the mind had me thinking it would be. A quick stop for lunch then back around the corner for the next dive.

Jim and Brian were in again. On there return Jim had one and none for Brian, who had to be picked up a wee way away as he had got caught in the current during his safety stop.

Ross and I had a poor return on our next dive, one for me and none for Ross. Plenty in berry though.

No more tanks left, cooling conditions, and a consensus to head for home, so off we went.

Back to the pub for a quick round before hitting the road, and once again an entertaining day out. Thanks for the use of your boat Angus.

I am off to America to do a summer camp now, but will be sending reports back of my adventures. Keep in touch everyone.
