The Nelson Bays Dive Club was started by a group of young and not so young enthusiastic divers in June 1997. These founding members (fossils) enjoyed the camaraderie, friendship, humour and competitive nature of trips they shared together and thought they should form an official club for others to share in their adventures.
Five of the fossils still exist in the club today, and are often brought out and dusted off to attend the occasional dive. Unfortunately the hardiness of these old souls has wilted and dry suit wearing has become a regular feature of their participation on club dives.
A wide range of age and experience is represented in the club. The youngest member is 15, while the oldest qualifies for Grey Power. The club currently has one instructor, 6 divemasters, and a rescue diver in its ranks. We are involved with Nelson Surf Lifesaving and provide rescue diver assistance in emergency situations. We have something for everyone, from newbies who want to learn to dive, to people wishing to further their education and experience.
We are always looking for more members and also welcome any visitors to participate on club outings and look forward to sharing tall aquatic tales with both our local and overseas buddies. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
Our club promotes fun and safe diving!!!!
